I have pretty severe psoriasis on my scalp, which apart from being unsightly is extremely uncomfortable, painful and a sheer annoyance. I've tried everything I can think of, every weird and wonderful concoction going! I discovered shampoo bars around a year ago, and they've really helped ease my scalp, but I still get flare-ups pretty frequently. I stumbled across your product when I was looking for a new bar, and I was intrigued. I ordered it, and then promptly caught a horrible cold with a chest infection. As psoriasis is an autoimmune disease, that naturally turned my scalp into a volcanic eruption of itching, pain, unsightly lumps/bumps/scales, and generally making me feel absolutely miserable, as well as being ill. I thought I'd try the bar immediately, just to see if it could ease the pain. Well! It was nothing short of miraculous - immediately my scalp felt soothed, and the horrendous itching stopped. For me, that would've been enough, but somehow my scalp cleared up completely. No scaly lumps, no itching, no flakes. It was absolutely amazing, I've never had that kind of a reaction to a shampoo. And my hair looked shiny, healthy and full of bounce and volume too! Admittedly, as I washed my hair that first time, it felt very weird. The shampoo makes your hair feel almost sticky, but that had been explained in the advice note, so I wasn't worried. I figured it was all the chemicals and nasties that had been put on my hair from lesser products!
2 weeks on, my hair has never looked better. It's soft and shiny, frizz-free, and with plenty of bounce. It even looks so good that the shine hides my white hairs, as I've been asked several times if I'd dyed my hair! My scalp feels so much better, obviously it can't cure the psoriasis but it's doing an incredible job of keeping it under control. And it smells divine too, an almost musk-like smell that disappears as soon as your hair dries.
Nice product and good price
I used this a few times and wasn't really sure what to make of it, it did leave my hair a little dry and a bit hard(ish) but after contacting the team here I was advised to use an apple cider vinegar rinse which worked well for me. Still not sure this is the right bar for me though, so will try another one of their bars in the hope it wows me.
Top Notch
I had heard about African Black soap before but never tried it because I always assumed it was more suited to curly hair and is big in the Curly Girl communities, but I've got short black fine hair and thought I'd give it a bash as I've tried other bars from Amica and been very impressed. Well, this bar was no different, it washes and lathers brilliant and leaves my hair soft and manageable. It is unscented so the natural smell of the African Black soap does come through but it's not unpleasant and my hair doesn't smell of anything after it's washed so yet again I'm very pleased with this bar from Helen and the Amica team :)
